Terpsichore Tuesday launches!

Posted by newdeseret on 22 April 2009

A grand time was had by all on Tuesday evening in Kingdom Park, as Radio Riel launched their new weekly series Terpsichore Tuesday live from the City of Enoch sim. Gabrielle Riel hosted the debut herself, and marked her third rez-day as well. About 60 attended during the 90-minute show and dance.

Radio Riel is a streaming music/program service in Second Life (and available on the Internet) with a public radio feel about it. Their playlist is vast and eclectic. It was launched in July 2007 in Caledon, and their following has spread.

Terpsichore Tuesday will run every Tuesday night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Pacific time (SLT). The program will explore the wide variety of danceable music across time and space. Future installments will be presented by a rotation of staff presenters, and the City of Enoch is pleased to play host to the broadcasts and a weekly dance on the park grounds.

To receive Radio Riel in Second Life, set your parcel media stream to http://music.radioriel.org for the main stream 24/7. Terpsichore Tuesday will broadcast on the event stream, http://music2.radioriel.org.

To visit Kingdom Park for the dances at each live broadcast, the SLURL is http://slurl.com/secondlife/City%20of%20Enoch/68/172/26.

Time for upgrades

Posted by newdeseret on 23 March 2009

I got a lot done this weekend upgrading Val’s. A new TP network is in place with six stations at Kingdom Park, City Hall, the fishing camp, the fencing arena, the game room, and the new Beehive Legion platform.

The new platform is 725m up, more than 200m above the sky castle. It features a show jumping course to challenge your equestrian skills, the Berzerker Battle System for melee combat, and the Wizardry game for duels between spellcasters. For jumping, bring your own horse. For Berzerker, you can buy a free set of weapons and equipment right there. I still need to set up the ability to get the Wizardry HUDs on site.

Watch for information about The Beehive Legion, a new in-world group to support riding, flying, nautical activities, and the combat games of Berzerker, Combat Cards, En Garde!, and Wizardry. It’s been ostensibly organised “for the defence of the State of New Deseret”, including air force, navy, cavalry, light and heavy infantry, and arcanist groups. What it will really do is put together events for members and the public. If you want to join now, it’s a token L$20, open enrollment.

Also, congratulations to new title holders: Carefully Corrugated Cardboard Macarthur, Court Musician Tascha Klees, and Trombone Princess Seth Troell!

Come play with us!

Posted by newdeseret on 20 March 2009

We have several opportunities to play together coming up soon outside our beloved TE. If you have any questions, just ask!

Crarting Competition: Crarting is a team game where teams of three create a piece of art — or something — one prim at a time, each player adding a prim in rotation. Contest runs now through Monday at the north end of Western Avenue. Contact the Poets of Zarahemla (Ingeborg Apfelbaum, Mathoni Zuhrah, or Seth Troell) for more information.

En Garde Tournament: Val hosts another Premier Series event for the United En Garde group from 1 pm to about 4 pm on Saturday the 21st. The tourney is single-elimination, random pairings, open to all. Between 20 and 25 players are expected, including several of the world’s best. Entry is L$50; the prize fund is normally at least L$2500.

Neo-Realms Team Fishing League: Either the State, the Kingdom, or Val’s Recreation will be a sponsor of the third season of the Neo-Realms Team Fishing League. The sponsorship includes entry of two teams into the league. Val is expected to fish with Ingeborg Apfelbaum for one team; the other team is open. Team members need to be able to fish together three times a week for 30 minutes each time, but have a lot of freedom in picking times that work for them. The league supplies a special rod used only for league play and practice. Contact Val if you are interested.

Get Your Horses Ready: Val will be reopening her equestrian jumping course soon, probably a couple of hundred meters above the sky castle in another aerial arena.

In other news — Congratulations to Celestial ChristianMormon Kidd, Wisconsin Badger Rickroll Tungsten, Wild Blue Princess Fopper Iwish, and Master Builder Bart Baramm! If you want a title and you are a Baron or higher, let Her Majesty know what you want. Giviing out titles helps the kingdom to grow, as each new title comes with a five-acre grant of land.

Nice party, long busy day

Posted by newdeseret on 11 March 2009

It was a very good day. Thank you to all who came out for any piece of our anniversary celebration, and to all who hosted.

We got off to a rough start. Val slept too long and the start of her fishing tourney was delayed, but nine fishers and a couple of hangers-on were there. SL had a rolling restart in the morning, and both Val and Kelly Chronowire among others got locked out with login issues, blowing up the concert in the park.

But the rest of the events went great. The POZ team had about 10 at the poetry reading (and game!), Myfi’s hosted a half dozen for Combat Cards, Val had a like number for Acrophilia, and at least 15 or so descended upon Barbara’s and Pear’s for a beach party, arcade games, and fireworks.

Four new titles were confirmed: Genealogist Princess Clarise Beaumont, Poet Princess Ingeborg Apfelbaum, Friend to All Di Lowenhart, and Sheriff Bun-Bun Zarahemla Jewell.

And a good time was had by all . . .

Progressive party proposal

Posted by newdeseret on 5 March 2009

A group of us were chatting in the middle of the night as we were terrorforming Pear Dumpling’s place and getting new residents Clowey Greenwood and Barbara Collazo settled. In the course of it all Barbara hit on exactly the theme for Tuesday’s event — a progressive party, modeled after RL progressive dinners. Have different hosts set up different stuff at different sites and scheduled times through the day. Join when you want, leave when you want, come back when you want.

I propose the following schedule. Note that many slots are open; volunteers are sought. I would like to see us try something every two hours, but NOT two-hour long events! Use your imaginations.

  • 4:30 am – Neo-Realms fishing tournament, part of the official tour. It’s beginner mode event rod, so you can use any rod you want and no bait and have an even shot. No fee, L$600 in prizes plus standard NR rewards and trophies. Val’s Fishing Camp, host Valentine Janus.
  • 6:30 am – Impromptu concert. Gather round the bell tower as Kelly Chronowire premieres an original anthem on the carillon and plays other favourites. Bring your own playable music instruments if you have them for informal sharing and jamming afterward. Kingdom Park, no host.
  • 8:30 am -
  • 10:30 am -
  • 12:30 pm – Poetry reading and workshop. Poets of Zarahemla Reading Room (#1 1/2 Pioneer Parkway), host Ingeborg Apfelbaum.
  • 2:30 pm – Combat Cards teaching session and tournament using free demo decks. No fee, top finishers get free cards toward building your own decks. Myfi’s (#2 Pioneer Parkway), host Myfi Lundquist.
  • 4:30 pm -
  • 6:30 pm – Acrophilia party game, come learn to play. Have fun creating acronyms based on generated letters: LDS might become Lucky Danish Singers or Large Doughnuts Served, for example. Very social, usually lots of laughs. Bring L$40 to L$100; money circulates every round with every player who enters each round getting something (or a lot) back. Kingdom Park, host Valentine Janus.
  • 8:30 pm – Beach party and fireworks! At the big treehouse between Bountiful Terrace and Kirtland Road, host Barbara Collazo.

If a DJ wants to pick up a block for a dance at the park feel free; contact Val to discuss terms. I will work with hosts to move things around for a dance :) Also, I’d like to see one of our Procyon Games aficionados host a Frootcake or Can’t Stop (or both) session at the game room. I can do it but help would be great.

Except for the fishing tournament all times are flexible for the next day or two while we line things up. Thanks once more for all you do for the community!

(NOTE: Updated on Saturday morning 7 March 2009.)

The City comes to earth

Posted by newdeseret on 3 March 2009

Last Thursday, after consultations with every land owner and market renter in the sky city, I started a project to dismantle the sky city and create a more traditional environment on the ground.

Five days later, the new island is truly ready for occupancy. It has water all around it, and is parceled into 512 m2 plots with double-prims (234). The roads have been laid out. A beautiful public park, Kingdom Park, sits at the center of town. (It will be the new headquarters of the Tiny Empires kingdom of New Deseret.) And it’s all at the affordable price of L$498 per week per lot, with no added up-front land fees.

Also, Val’s Fishing Camp and the sky castle with its En Garde! fencing arena, game room, Walk of the Prophets exhibit and other goodies remain unaffected. So the sim retains unmatched recreational opportunities.

Visit the City of Enoch sim soon, and take in the changes. We’re looking for a few good people to build our community.

Of Bosco and BOGO

Posted by newdeseret on 21 February 2009

Welcome to the newest New Deseret resident, Boscodog Galaxy, occupying the plot on the south side of Flughafen Uchtdorf at the island’s west end.

The BOGO, on the other hand, is in the City of Enoch skydome market, from now through March 7th or when full. If you rent an open market stall in the dome for standard rates, I will match your paid rent up to six weeks. I hope to fill all the stalls quickly, as I would like to enter the market in the next grid-wide hunt with an Easter theme — which could mean traffic for you! Rates remain at L$150/wk for 50 prims, L$279/wk for 100 prims, or L$399/wk for 150 prims. Contact me if interested, or simply pay the meter on a vacant stall to begin renting and I will be notified by email. Ingeborg Apfelbaum can also assist with group tags. Existing tenants have received bonus weeks to reflect their loyalty.

Event planning — and you can help!

Posted by newdeseret on 5 February 2009

If the sims of New Deseret are going to prosper, one important thing we will need is more events on the calendar. Thank you to those who voted in my mini-poll a couple of weeks back.

I would like to see at least one scheduled event on the sims every day except Sunday. It’s an ambitious goal, but in my view a very desirable one. And when I say event that includes all kinds of events. Dances, concerts, classes, tournaments, both regular and one-off.

It’s also a goal I will not accomplish alone. This is where the “you can help” of the title comes in.

I want to establish a pool of people who can host events. Weekly hosts are nice, but one-off and substitute hosts are wonderful too. Specific needs include, in a rough order of priority:

  • DJs for a variety of music formats.
  • Hosts for the party games at Angell Park, Acrophilia and/or Take It Easy. (I will train you.)
  • Teachers for Second Life skills. Basic building classes in particular are always in demand.
  • Presenters or organisers for diverse topics both RL and SL, including Church-related topics.
  • Experienced players of two- and multi-player games on the sims to show newcomers how to play.
  • Fishing hosts for Neo-Realms and/or 7Seas local events. (I will train you.)

Once I know who can help and what they might be willing to help with, it will be easier to get things hopping. As we have more opportunities to gather together, both kingdom and community will grow!

Thanks in advance for your assistance,

Val

Welcome to our newest residents . . .

Posted by newdeseret on 12 January 2009

We had several move-ins to the sims over the weekend. The newest citizens of the City are Astasia Moonwall and Jeroma Wycliffe. The newest landholder on Deseret is the group Darkstone Reunion headed by Gerard Darkstone and AoA council chair Rosalie Fleury. Welcome!

Events — kingdom, community, and otherwise

Posted by newdeseret on 5 January 2009

New Deseret has a lot of places to do cool things, and I’d like to organise some. Here’s a quick poll focusing on the many multi-player games installed on the City of Enoch sim. What would you like to do? I’ll be happy to teach people and set times to bring us together more often (and beyond TE for those of us who play TE!).

Choose as many as you like, and thanks in advance for voting!

Val
