Update on the City

Posted by newdeseret on 4 March 2009

Thank you to everyone who has responded so positively to the changes we’ve made on the City of Enoch sim. Here’s an update of the progress so far.

Kingdom Park

The Kingdom Park has been developed as a new hangout point for the Tiny Empires kingdom. The coronation campanile (bell tower) has been moved to the corner of Independence Boulevard and Western Avenue, flanked by a couple of large trees. It has been reduced in height by 4m, expanding the range from which the bells can be heard when playing. The dance machines and party games that were in the sky dome park are now on the opposite corner, together with a dance floor. Seating for 15 is also found for gatherings and meetings.

City Hall

City Hall is a small log cabin at the corner of Kirtland Road and Western Avenue, just south of the park. Free horse rides are available, and anyone from the community or the kingdom who wishes to contribute freebies (PG) for folks to get at the site is welcome to leave them off. Information displays are also planned.

Bridge to the Mainland

Bart Baramm graciously built a nice bridge from the foot of Bountiful Terrace over the water and across his lands in South Deseret to connect the island with the entrance to ZCMI and the Zarahemla sim.

People Moving In!

Seven residents have leased 17 of the 46 lots available on the big island. They are Andromeda Luminos, Ingeborg Apfelbaum, Jeroma Wycliffe, Kelly Chronowire, Myfi Lundquist, Pear Dumpling, and Rosalie Fleury. An eighth resident, Astasia Moonwall, has reserved a lot but is temporarily AFK for technical reasons. Also, Candi Streusel has a house up on Bountiful Terrace checking things over but is not yet committed.

Val’s Recreation Still Going Strong

Life on the southeast corner of the sim continues unchanged. The fishing camp on the smaller island still offers both Neo-Realms and 7Seas fishing, including regular tournaments. The Sheriff of Deseret, Zarahemla Jewell, also lives there to keep the peace and chuck carrots at ne’er-do-wells.

Val’s sky castle hovers 500m above. The top floor has a game room with more than a dozen games for one, two, or more players. The ground floor is the vast Edward Partridge Stadium, host to several major En Garde! fencing game championships and now offering the Combat Cards game as well. On the arena mezzanine is the Walk of the Prophets church history exhibit.

We Want YOU

Lots cost a little over $8 US a month. (To be exact, L$498 per week per lot, lots are 512 square meters and permit 234 prims (double normal). No premium membership is needed. At least 17 waterfront parcels remain!

Let’s Celebrate on Tuesday, March 10

Monday, March 9 marks the second birthday of the Adam ondi Ahman sim from which this has all grown. Also, I expect to return to the Tiny Empires map with the kingdom before then — we have fewer than 400 acres to go. I don’t really want to schedule a celebration for a Monday evening. But the next day, Tuesday, is a day off work for me. I have my regular Neo-Realms fishing tournament on the official tour circuit at 4:30 am that day as a kickoff, and think that a set of community events would be just the ticket covering much of the day and serving many time zones. Volunteers, anyone? Or suggestions?

New site for New Deseret?

Posted by newdeseret on 5 December 2008

This is an experiment with a new site for New Deseret in Second Life and in the Tiny Empires game.  It offers the possibility of easier collaboration with multiple blog and page authors.  It also gives me more practice with WordPress, which will be critical as my committee will have responsibility for the Relay for Life of Second Life website this year.
