12 Steps to Tiny Empires: The Simple Way
Version 1.01, 18 July 2008
Sometimes a new player of Tiny Empires is overwhelmed by all the new stuff that is happening. This is my guide to getting a good start.
1. Wear your HUD almost all the time. Even if you are ignoring it totally, once you have a liege you will at least build up your gold.
2. Get a liege as soon as you can. Without one you can’t buy land or get regular income. Normally, just hang close to the friend that recruited you, and you will soon get asked to join them. If your friend is a Baron or higher, they might be too high to take you on, then they will probably instruct you on what to do and whom to join.
3. The only screen you ever need is the Offers tab (green print). You can ignore all the others playing the simple way. At the bottom of that screen each month is a title and sometimes numbers like (1/1) or (1/5). If the second number is greater than 1 there is more than one green screen, use the arrows in the lower right corner to page back and forth through your offers.
4. You can never hurt yourself by answering surveys or attempting riddles. If you are right you get gold, if not nothing happens.
5. To answer a survey: Just click the Yes or No box. When in real doubt, vote No; most people do this. If 75% of the people vote with you you get gold.
6. To answer a riddle: Notice that the riddle gives you a number in brackets. There are also itty-bitty arrows to the left of the Yes box. Use those arrows to move the bracketed number up or down until the right answer shows, then click the Yes box to lock it in. Again, no penalty for wrong answers. Puzzle help is available on the Web at http://www.erzsabet.com/TECalcExperimental.html
7. Get your first acre of land as soon as you can buy it. You might also get gifts from your sponsor or other players, some advanced events will encourage other players to give away land.
8. After you have an acre, don’t buy land until you have about three to four times the current price of an acre. (Higher-ranking players will one day want even more.)
9. Getting land is the way to rise in the game. Every acre of land lifts everyone above you in line too! So the team that we are building benefits from every acre. When you get your first acre you’re a Peasant, after 5 you’re a Squire/Squiress, after 10 you’re a knight (Sir/Dame), after 25 a Baron/Baroness. Higher ranks have more acres, up to 1,000 or more for princes and 20,000 or more for kings and queens.
10. Ignore all attempts to bribe others or to hire out sabotage. But check No to turn down attempts to bribe you, because your liege may then be able to send you some gold for your loyalty. You want a reputation as loyal and honest, in the long run it pays. The people you deceive are real people, not computer figures, and they react like people.
11. If you want to recruit your friends, do it quickly. It is harder to recruit them directly after you get to 25 acres, and much harder after 50 or more. But if you are doing much recruiting, you’ll be beyond The Simple Way very quickly!
12. Hang out with your friends and HAVE FUN. Remember, this game is there for you when YOU want to play it. Do other things. I’ve run meetings, fought duels, and attended live performances while wearing and sometimes using my HUD. When I skipped a turn or several, the gold kept coming and the bills kept getting paid.
